Recycle: Please use labeled receptacles for paper, glass, plastic, cans, waste and cups. Doing so we will be ecologically responsible and a big help to maintenance staffs as well. Thank you.
Reduce up to 1/3 of your household trash that goes to landfills and make your own free, homemade compost. Learn how at www.HowToCompost.org or www.reduce.org.

Environmental Grants & Tool Kit for Hennepin County Congregations

Please share with other congregations in Hennepin County.

All congregations of all faiths in Hennepin County are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to learn about a new environmental toolkit created by C3 (Congregations Caring for Creation) Alliance for Sustainability and Hennepin County from all faith traditions and to provide feedback on the toolkit items. Small grants will be available in 2008 to implement environmental activities to 15-20 congregations. The focus of the toolkit is environmental education for families, adults, teens and youth, specifically on recycling, waste reduction, reuse and reducing exposure to chemicals in the home. Please see details below.

Please join us for an Informational Meeting:

Thursday, January 24, 2:00 - 3:30 PM
Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Downstairs meeting room
511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403
(Located across the street from the Walker Art Center)

Map and directions: http://haumc.org/Page.asp?I=36&T=1&C=11

RSVP appreciated -- email Ami Voeltz at amivoeltz@comcast.net or call 612-345-7973.

Details:

  • The toolkit includes congregation-wide activity ideas and lesson plans for adult, teen and child groups. Accompanying support materials (to be finalized in February 2008) are offered by Hennepin County Environmental Services, through the Community POWER (Partners on Waste Education and Reduction) program.
  • The toolkit and lesson plans offer a variety of activities and ideas for hymns, prayers and sermons for a variety of faiths. Many have already been successfully used by congregations. The toolkit materials were written and created by experienced staff at C3 (Congregations Caring for Creation), who are promoting the active care of creation as integral to spiritual life.
  • Grants of $500 will be available to 15-20 congregations that implement the toolkit and lesson plans (to cover staff costs and supplies). Information on how to apply will be available at the informational meeting.
Please attend the informational meeting to learn more about this opportunity and to give feedback to Hennepin County about how to make the toolkit and grants useful for congregations like yours. If you cannot attend but would like to receive further information, please contact Ami Voeltz at amivoeltz@comcast.net or 612-345-7973.
