Recycle: Please use labeled receptacles for paper, glass, plastic, cans, waste and cups. Doing so we will be ecologically responsible and a big help to maintenance staffs as well. Thank you.
Reduce up to 1/3 of your household trash that goes to landfills and make your own free, homemade compost. Learn how at www.HowToCompost.org or www.reduce.org.
Want to get rid of all those packing peanuts? Check out www.LooseFillPackaging.com or call the Peanut Hotline at 800.828.2241 to find out how and where you can conveniently recycle polystyrene loose fill packaging.

Updates

Clarence

  1. Cabaret zero waste event

Really convinced a lot of people it is the way to go. We’re “going compostable” here at SJA; meeting coming up with Steve Friedrichs. We achieved a resource recovery rate of 95% which is remarkable for our first effort. We collected 965 pounds of discards of which: 635 pounds were recycled bottles, cans, and cardboard; 280 pounds were compostable products; and only 50 pounds were trash.

Clarence will send numbers to Amy. Amy will draft a story for our webpage.
Mary
  1. Transportation Issues

Tabled until after some of these other events. (till Jan.)

Nancy, Dick, Janet, Mary and Clarence are on this “topic team.”
Mary and Mike
  1. Eco-Spirit website

Tom agreed to be contact person for email. Mike showed the site as it is so far. Many ideas emerged: update mission statement and move it to “about us” page; in history add DVD, wind energy, zero waste event, MN Energy challenge, light-bulb give-away, + past actions; on front page put next meeting info and minutes plus “hot green” feature

Janet
  1. Fair trade eventNew Date: Nov. 26 1:00-3:00 PM

Many volunteers are needed! Educational fair will be right after masses. Selling of products 1-3pm by lots of vendors! Some items connected to Ministries International will be available, and options for donations (Heifer Project, etc.) Cookie cart kids will be there after mass to tell about what they do. Local organic food will be for sale, too. We’ll take compost to Common Roots. Postcards and posters are made, and we’re expecting 400-500 people.

Please send personal invitation out.

Janet will send email flyer and blurb to Clarence.
